I wish to step
Out on to soil
Beyond all of this
Turmoil.
Into a Place
That in its span
Has never known
The touch of Man.
I would kneel there
If i could,
As a supplicant
And brood-
With my Attention
Worship ground
Run my hand
‘Long every mound
Upon the grass
And bark, as well
I would savor
Every smell
The sights, the sounds
The feelings, deep.
I would treasure all
And weep.
All the eons
Earth had seen
I would witness it
Again.
Plowed the fields
Sowed our seeds
We neglected
All her needs.
Timeless Present
Pressing close
I would Love
Its every rose.
Bloody petal
Razor thorn
There, upon it
We are born.
From Earth we rise
To her return
Epic cycle
We would spurn.
Struggling
On legs to stand
We have endured
Every brand.
Every wound
From every beast
We have conquered
And now Feast.
Endless eating
Constant Need
We have captured them
And Feed.
Generational
Our Greed
They are just
A different Breed.
Stripped
Of dignity,
Our slaves.
We deny them
Even space.
Call them “cattle”
Call them “ours”
We deliver
Endless scars.
Crowded herds
Of numbered “meat”
Suffering
Beneth our feet.
They’re just animals
We say
Even as we
Stomp and bray.
Senseless cruelty
Rotten soul
We are relentless
In our toll.
Mad perversion
Vile role
We must castrate
Every bull.
And impregnate
Every sow
Rape the Life
From every cow.
Butcher calves
Then drink their
Milk
Acting like
It isnt sick.
Pluck the birds
And grind
Live chicklets
That’s what we refuse
to witness.
Skin
The beasts
While they’re
Alive
Ending Lives
That want to Thrive.
Spear the whales
Wound their young
Then just use
A bigger gun.
Eat their corpse-flesh
Because we’re
“Viscious”
Look at all those
Stupid fishes!
Suffocating
On our boats,
As we open up
Their throats.
At our leisure
We are winning
Even as They’re
Silent-SCREAMING.
We dissect rodents
Our sweetest kin
Harboring no slight
nor sin.
Saying their
“gross”
even as They
Feel Most.
We call them all
“Disgusting”
even as We
Kill the Trusting.
Loving dogs
And Clever cats
We call them
Pets
And “euthanize” them
Like they’re gnats.
Hunt
The harmless deer
And brag
About how
You shot
A “stag.”
Slay the wolf
And then her pups
And cutting out
All of their guts.
You’re the master
“Owner”
Fiend
Slaughtering
A living Being.
Incessant
Passionless
And Dumb
We know all
Have become
Numb.
Greatest gifts
Are freely given
Greatest crimes
Most hideously riven.
As a Species
We are blind
Even as We
Suicide.
To take
Paradise
And make
Shopping malls
Is a mistake.
To trade wonders
Of the Wild
For conveniences
So mild.
Cheapest profit
Briefest spoil
We destroy it all
For oil.
Our legacy
Will be great
Fire.
Most of it
Caused by our
Sire.
We are so
Proud!
We say it
Loud!
Insane depravity abound.
Spiteful
And treacherous
Desire
Self-inflicted
Weeping wound
In murderous attire.
Us hairless apes
We think we’re
“Clever”
Mass producing
Violent weather.
It’s almost
Too late
You fools!
Must we always
Be just tools?
Extinction beckons
It’s a Fact
Stop your praying
We must Act!
There is
Another Way
That’s Better
I will write it
In This Letter.
Heal their suffering
Our pain
So instead
We All can
Gain.
Stand Together
Sally forth;
What we Do
What We’re worth.
Build a place
Of safety too
Where Every Being
May accrue
That lasting Joy
And dearest Love
Eternal harmony
Above.
Mankind’s pettiness
And theft.
New technologies
We’ll craft
No more scarcity,
At last.
We will face
Our final test.
If Abundance
We desire
We can then
Acheive
Great power
To bring peace
And justice to
Countless billions
In woe
End the famines
Tend the world
To this Truth
We can behold
In the skies
Above us Now
Endless energy
Shines down.
Harness power
Of the plants
Not the animals
Our friends.
They’re our cousins
They’re our kins
Ethics
Empathy
Must Win.
Rise above
The toxic creeds
Painting all of our
Great deeds.
Be the cure
Not the disease
Find solutions
To be free.
If in harmony
We stand
Then together
We can mend
Tyrannies of
Ages-past
Building futures
That will last.
There’s my message
That’s my speech
Unto you
I must beseech-
Save us all
Let’s tarry not
Let us give it
All we’ve got!
Wow, what a profound and moving piece! Your poem captures the essence of our collective human impact on the world with such raw honesty and vivid imagery. The way you juxtapose the beauty of nature with the harsh realities of our exploitation is both powerful and eye-opening. It’s a poignant reminder of the urgent need for empathy and change.
Your call to action—urging us to rise above our current practices and seek harmony and justice—is both inspiring and necessary. The vision you present of a future where we live in true balance with all beings is a hopeful one, and your words serve as a compelling invitation to start making that vision a reality.
Thank you for sharing this impactful work. It’s a crucial contribution to the conversation about how we can better respect and care for our planet and its inhabitants.
